For me, ‘responsible business’ is shorthand for the way we should work
if we want the firm to be successful over the long term.

Our commitment to being a responsible business

Putting responsible business at the heart of our firm

The way we do business at Freshfields reflects who we are and what we stand for. We don’t just want to advise our clients well, we want to do so in a responsible and sustainable way.

Responsible business describes the way our firm delivers value to society, both by the way we manage our own business and by the lasting positive contribution we can make to our communities.

Being a responsible business requires us to confront and address ethical, reputational and legal risk. It means we must conduct our business in an environmentally friendly way ‎and try ever harder to create a respectful, diverse and inclusive workplace in which everyone is treated with dignity ‎and respect and where our people feel able to be themselves.

It also involves contributing to our communities through our pro bono and community investment activities. We have two areas of focus that play to our strengths as a global law firm and enable us to make a real difference:

Our responsible business strategy looks to improve the lives of our target groups: women, children, refugees, the LGBT+ community, minority groups and those who are both underprivileged and under-represented.
