Partnerships that advance diversity at the highest level
Freshfields is proud to partner with New York-based Council of Urban Professionals (CUP) and advance its vision of racial, ethnic and gender parity at the highest business and civic leadership positions.
Since 2007, CUP has supported high-performing professionals of diverse backgrounds in their rise to senior leadership roles. CUP’s high-quality forums, leadership development programmes and extraordinary network have a proven track record – programme participants regularly advance to higher positions within a year of completion. For example, the CUP Fellows Program is a 10-month course on career strategy and leadership that features opportunities for cross-sector networking and non-profit board participation.
‘Freshfields understands the importance of diversity among its workforce, its client base, and society. Our partnership focuses on ensuring that all Freshfields employees have the right tools to excel and grow.’
Executive Director, Council of Urban Professionals
Freshfields became a CUP Corporate Partner in 2014 and supporter of its work to increase diverse professionals’ access to the connections, opportunities and expertise needed for top leadership roles. In 2015, Freshfields’ New York office served as the host site for three sessions of the CUP Fellows Program and its annual convening of CUP Fellow alumni from several class years.
In turn, our CUP Partnership furthers Freshfields’ efforts to retain, promote and recognise its own diverse and high-performing talent. In 2015, CUP honoured Tim Wilkins as a CUP Catalyst in Law, in recognition of his career achievements and the positive impact of his civic service, mentorship and philanthropy. Senior Associate John K Johnson completed the CUP Fellows Program in 2014 and CUP’s Executive Leadership Program in 2015.
